 Women in Successful Career (WISCAR)
Amina Oyagbola is an ALIWA Fellow from the 2006 Totum Bonum Class, who was inspired to initiate Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) as a result of her participation in the ALIWA seminars which challenges Fellows to move from “Thought to Action”.

Over the years, Amina had developed a deep concern for the frustrations and challenges that professional women face as they attempt to navigate their way up the corporate ladder. Given her personal and professional successes, she was constantly approached by young women at various stages of their professional careers for advice. She could no longer ignore the urgent need for women to access strategic guidance and support during their professional and corporate careers.

It was against this backdrop that WISCAR was designed to establish a mentoring platform for women in careers through one-on-one interaction in a structured framework between the mentees and experienced mentors to whom they would have unique access for advice and to help resolve career challenges. In this vein, by helping to unleash the largely untapped potential of women, WISCAR is contributing to giving women equal opportunity to excel in the corporate world. On a larger scale, the organization is supporting existing efforts by the Nigerian Government under the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) programme and multilateral initiatives such as NEPAD towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

However, Amina recognizes that the vision of WISCAR will not be fully realized if it does not strive to address the unfriendly practices in the workplace that limit women; as a result, WISCAR aims to drive the institutionalization of gender-sensitive policies for implementation by senior professionals in their respective organizations.
To date, WISCAR has identified fifty-eight (58) mentees and eighteen (18) mentors.
